There is a saying that if a fish bone gets stuck in your throat while eating, swallowing plain rice will help it go down. However, this is completely unfounded. It can be dangerous.
A very lightly embedded foreign object may come out if you drink liquids like water, but solid foods can push the foreign object deeper. If you swallow plain rice while a splinter is lodged, even if it is only slightly embedded at first, the rice that follows can cause the splinter to penetrate more deeply, so caution is advised.
It is known that when fish bones or foreign objects get stuck in the throat, about 4% of adults and 7% of children develop inflammation or perforation and rupture of the pharyngeal or esophageal wall. Experts explain that this is caused by improper responses such as swallowing plain rice to push down the bones.
Foreign objects that do not come out on their own must be removed at a hospital. If they are lodged in the visible tonsils, they can be removed with forceps. If they are caught in the pharynx below the tonsils, they are not visible to the naked eye, so they are removed using an endoscope.
If a foreign object gets lodged in the esophagus below the larynx, it causes a burning sensation more in the chest than in the throat, leading to pain that may go unnoticed if the cause is not identified and left untreated, potentially resulting in complications. The further down the esophagus the object is lodged, the less likely it is to cause noticeable pain. This is because the sensation diminishes as the esophagus gets closer to the stomach. There are many cases where pain caused by a lodged splinter is mistaken for heartburn.
If a thorn lodged in the esophagus is left untreated and not recognized, it can gradually penetrate deeper due to peristalsis. If this condition persists for about a week, an esophageal perforation may occur. If the perforation is small and there is no abscess, treatment involves fasting and administering antibiotics.

They say they're going down... this is a dangerous situation.
Inflammation can also occur due to the thorn.
I used to have mackerel bones at the tip of my palate.
You went to the ENT department and had it removed, right?
