Malaria is a deadly disease that claims the lives of millions of people worldwide every year. There are several reasons why eradicating malaria is difficult.

 

First, the complex life cycle of Plasmodium, the parasite that causes malaria. This parasite reproduces between mosquitoes and humans, infecting the liver and red blood cells of humans. This complex life cycle makes treatment and prevention difficult.

Secondly, the widespread distribution and high adaptability of mosquitoes that transmit malaria. Mosquitoes of the Anopheles genus, the primary vectors of malaria, can survive in various environments and quickly develop resistance to insecticides. This makes mosquito eradication difficult.

 

Third, an effective vaccine for malaria has not yet been developed. The currently available vaccines have limited efficacy and do not guarantee complete prevention. Vaccine development is complex and costly, and it becomes even more difficult due to parasite mutations.

 

Fourth, the lack of medical infrastructure and economic conditions in regions where malaria is prevalent. In developing countries, there are often insufficient medical facilities, personnel, and medicines, making malaria prevention and treatment difficult. This poses a significant obstacle to preventing the spread of malaria.

Malaria prevention methods

Several approaches are necessary to effectively combat malaria.

 

First, use mosquito nets and insect repellent to prevent mosquito bites. Mosquito nets are one of the simplest and most effective methods to prevent malaria. Insect repellents also block mosquito access, reducing the risk of infection.

 

Second, mosquito eradication through the use of insecticides and elimination of mosquito habitats. It is important to reduce the mosquito population by using insecticides and removing standing water where mosquitoes breed.

 

Third, taking malaria prevention medication. When traveling to areas at risk for malaria, taking preventive medication can reduce the risk of infection.
