The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommends, for adults, 150 to 300 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise or 75 to 150 minutes of vigorous-intensity exercise per week. People with chronic conditions such as hypertension or diabetes, as well as those who rarely exercise, should avoid doing exercise in a single session. If the following symptoms appear during exercise, overexertion should be suspected.

Muscle pain

Muscle soreness caused by exercise typically recovers in about 3 to 4 days. However, if it persists for more than 4 days, it becomes a problem. Prolonged muscle soreness may be the result of excessive exercise. Both the amount and intensity of exercise should be adjusted simultaneously. Consulting with a fitness trainer may be necessary.

Consistent exercise causes a decrease in resting heart rate because the heart can supply enough blood with fewer beats. However, excessive exercise can increase resting heart rate. In older adults and those with adult diseases, this can potentially lead to serious cardiovascular problems.

◆ Injury

If you frequently experience minor or major injuries during exercise, you should check whether there are issues with your workout method or the amount of exercise. In particular, during strength training, you should assess whether you are handling weights that exceed your physical capacity.

◆ Decreased immunity

According to experts, when physical strength is weak or nutrition is insufficient, excessive exercise can actually weaken the immune system. As a result, women may experience menstrual cessation, and men may suffer from decreased libido. If excessive exercise continues over a long period, it can cause serious damage to the kidneys and heart.

◆ Feelings of depression

The right amount of exercise for oneself helps balance hormones and improves mood. However, excessive exercise can have the opposite effect. Exercising not for enjoyment but out of 'obligation' can also be a cause of depression.

◆ Lethargy

If you feel more tired and lethargic after exercising, you should suspect whether you have overexerted your body. If you feel so exhausted immediately after starting work or exercise that your muscles can't even generate proper strength, it's a problem. You need to check if your workout intensity is excessive.
