How to effectively reduce mild motion sickness during vacation season

When you have motion sickness, you not only feel dizzy and have a headache, but also experience nausea, queasiness, and vomiting.

Sometimes, I experience cold sweats and an increase in heart rate or blood pressure.

If you are prone to motion sickness when riding cars, trains, or ships for a long time, it is also good to take motion sickness medication before boarding.

Take the motion sickness medication 30 minutes to 1 hour before boarding.

The motion sickness patch should be applied at least 4 hours before boarding for it to be effective.

The driver should never use it, and the adhesive motion sickness medication is also recommended to be avoided by patients with prostate enlargement and glaucoma.

If it's mild motion sickness, you can effectively reduce it by using the following methods.

  1. 1. Cars sit in the front seats, trains in the forward-facing seats, and ships near the center of gravity.

Sitting in the passenger seat where you can see ahead provides a clear view, allowing you to anticipate movements, which reduces motion sickness.

Motion sickness caused by vibrations can also be prevented.

Traveling forward reduces motion sickness compared to traveling backward, and the gaze is directed toward distant horizons.

The boat sits near the center of gravity with minimal rocking, gazing at the horizon.

The deck or upper cabin can sway significantly, which may worsen seasickness.

2. Sleep or wear an eye mask.

Sleeping is the best, but when you can't fall asleep, wear an eye mask to reduce visual stimulation.

During travel, I do not look at monitors or books such as cell phones or tablets.

3. We ventilate frequently.

If there is a lot of carbon dioxide in the air, it can cause more nausea, so open the window frequently for ventilation, and bad odors can also cause nausea.

Since it worsens, properly manage it so that there is no odor in the car.

Avoid fasting or overeating.

Motion sickness is accompanied by nausea or vomiting, and the symptoms become more severe when the stomach is empty or full.

Eat a light meal 2 to 3 hours before getting in the car, and do not eat anything afterward.

Avoid wearing tight-fitting clothes.

When feeling stuffy or uncomfortable, the body becomes sensitive and motion sickness can worsen, so do not tighten your body.

Wear comfortable clothes and loosen your belt or tie.
