Why are whole wheat bread and Greek yogurt good for dieting?🤔🤔

 

Whole wheat bread and Greek yogurt are known as popular diet foods. In fact, dieters often substitute whole wheat bread and Greek yogurt for regular bread or yogurt when craving them. However, according to food nutrition data, whole wheat bread has a calorie content of 306 kcal per 100g, which is higher than regular bread at 279 kcal per 100g, and Greek yogurt has 90 kcal per 100g, which is higher than regular yogurt at 60 kcal per 100g. How do they help with dieting?

 

Whole wheat, slowly raises blood sugar to prevent overeating

Whole wheat is a low glycemic index (GI) food. GI indicates the rate at which blood sugar rises after consuming a specific food. Foods with a GI of 55 or below are classified as low GI, while those with a GI of 70 or above are classified as high GI. The GI of whole wheat ranges from 50 to 55. When blood sugar rises rapidly, insulin secretion increases to regulate blood sugar, leading to quick feelings of hunger, which can easily result in overeating. In addition to whole wheat, low GI foods include ▲buckwheat ▲oats ▲barley ▲beans. Furthermore, bread made from whole wheat contains less sodium compared to other breads. Whole wheat is rich in fiber, which aids bowel movements, slowly raises blood sugar, and helps maintain a feeling of fullness for a longer period. Although it may have higher calories than regular white bread, it enters the body and positively affects blood sugar levels, thus aiding in weight loss.

 

✡️Greek yogurt, rich in protein to maintain satiety

Greek yogurt also provides long-lasting fullness, making it good for dieting. In particular, Greek yogurt in our country is usually made by removing whey and leaving only the protein mass. Thanks to its rich protein and fat content, it is digested more slowly than carbohydrates, resulting in prolonged satiety. As a result, you tend to eat less than usual. According to a study by Harvard University in the United States, the group that consumed high-protein meals including Greek yogurt experienced a reduction in body fat compared to the group that ate low-protein meals. On the other hand, regular yogurt has fewer calories but less satiety, which can increase appetite. Especially, it can lead to a stronger craving for carbohydrates and other sugars.

 

However, excessive intake should be avoided. The fiber in whole wheat can cause diarrhea, abdominal pain, and bloating if consumed in excess, putting a strain on the digestive system. Greek yogurt contains a lot of fat, and eating it excessively can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease. When eating yogurt, it is healthier to choose those without added sugar.
