Koreans use smartphones and PCs for an average of 5 hours a day... Eye health 'warning sign'

According to the Korea Communications Commission, the average daily usage time of smartphones and PCs for Koreans is about 5 hours. Excluding the average sleep time of 7 hours, about one-third of activity time is spent using digital devices.


Focusing on the screen of a digital device reduces the frequency of blinking.

 


While the normal blinking rate is an average of 26 times per minute, it decreases by about 60% to an average of 11.6 times during digital device use.


If the frequency of blinking decreases and tear production diminishes, it can cause dry eyes, redness and congestion, decreased vision, and headaches.

 


Johnson & Johnson Surgical Vision has raised awareness about excessive digital device use and highlighted the importance of eye health management by presenting the three main eye care methods for the digital age.


If you need to use digital devices for extended periods, consciously blink your eyes every 2 to 3 seconds, regularly perform 3-minute eye exercises to relieve eye fatigue, and create an ideal digital work environment to help protect your eye health.

 

Especially when using a PC at work or at home, it is recommended to adjust the monitor brightness to match the ambient lighting, set the screen contrast to 60-70%, and ensure that the font size is not too small.


Additionally, the monitor should be positioned at eye level and used at a distance of about arm's length to reduce eye strain.

 


Seong Jong-hyun, CEO of Johnson & Johnson Surgical Vision, stated, "Recently, digital detoxes that avoid digital devices have become popular, reflecting how modern people's dependence on smartphones in daily life has become very high, and as a result, eye health is being seriously threatened." He added, "I hope that Johnson & Johnson Surgical Vision's three main eye health management methods for the digital age will help protect the eye health of modern people, even if just a little."

    아휴 저도 핸드폰이랑 pc 사용 시간이 긴데 줄이기가 쉽지 않네요. 눈건강을 위해서도 그렇지만 너무 기계만 만 만지고 있어서 걱정 입니다. 자주 하늘도 쳐다보고 해야 되는데..시간 조절 적절히 해서 건강을 잘 챙겨야 겠어요.
