Symptoms of dry eye syndrome

1. Dryness and irritation of the eyes

 

If insufficient tears are produced and maintained due to dry eye syndrome, the eyes become dry. When the eyes are dry, the surface of the eye becomes irritated, which can cause a stinging sensation.

 

2. Redness

 

When the eyes become dry and irritated, the blood vessels dilate, causing the surface of the eyes to become red.

 

3. Itching and tearing sensation in the eyes

 

Dry eyes can cause the skin around the eyelids and eyes to become dry and irritated, leading to a feeling of itching or cracking.

 

4. Cloudiness of the corneal surface

 

If tears are insufficient due to dry eye syndrome, the corneal surface may become dry, leading to blurred vision. This can be a temporary blurring, but in the long term, it may cause serious vision problems.

 

5. Foreign body sensation in the eye

 

When the surface of the eye becomes dry due to dry eye syndrome, there are cases where foreign body sensation is felt as if external substances like dust or dirt have entered the eye.

 

6. Changes in eyelid secretions

 

If dry eye syndrome progresses to blepharitis, the secretions attached to the eyelids may change.
