(Treatment case) Pterygium, also known as wing-shaped growth, surgery review and postoperative care
Exostosis is a condition known as "wing of the ear," which may be unfamiliar, but it is a common condition that occurs mainly after the age of 50.
Pterygium is a condition caused by prolonged exposure to ultraviolet rays. It appears as if a white film is covering the eye and is different from cataracts. As shown in the picture below, it is a condition where the white sclera gradually covers the black pupil.
The main cause is believed to be irritation from ultraviolet rays or outdoor dust and wind, as previously mentioned, but a definitive cause has not been identified.
Even though the groom is not in his 50s, his black pupils were covered by a white membrane, causing his vision to decline, and he frequently experienced redness, so he decided to undergo surgery.
The surgery time was very short; I think it took about 15 minutes.
The surgery is relatively short and simple. Although the adenoids are removed through surgery, they tend to recur easily. Recurrence occurs in about 5-10% of cases, and especially in young people, the recurrence rate is higher, so post-surgical care is considered more important.
The groom is in an age group with a high recurrence rate, so after surgery, he wears sunglasses to protect his eyes from UV rays even in winter when there is sunlight, and during the summer he also wears a hat along with sunglasses.
