This is a phenomenon in which excessive tears are secreted due to excessive stimulation of the tear glands, or tears are not discharged due to blockage of the tear drainage organs.
Simply put, tears that cannot be discharged due to blocked tear ducts accumulate in the eyes.
I visited an ophthalmologist for this tearing. Most people opt for surgery, but I was treated non-surgically! This is my experience of treating my tearing without surgery.
Epiphora is a condition in which the eye continues to produce more tears than it can handle, so tears continue to flow even in the absence of any external stimulation.
Why do tears come out after yawning? Because the tears collect in your eyes.
You can see that this situation will continue.
Even in normal times, my eyes look moist due to tears and are filled with tears as if I were crying.
The photo is blurry, but there were tears under the black lines.
My eyes are naturally bloodshot and I often get conjunctivitis and styes, so at first I thought it was conjunctivitis, but strangely enough, tears kept coming out.
When I told my mom later, she told me that it was because my tear ducts were blocked.
So I went to the local ophthalmologist and got checked first.
They usually say to open the tear duct, but the hospital recommended surgery for me.
It was a surgery that inserted a silicone tube into the eye to help tears drain smoothly.
They said it was a simple and risk-free surgery, but why would you just go ahead and do it without trying any other treatments? I'm still young, so I'm hesitant about getting eye surgery.
So I told the ophthalmologist that I wanted to treat my epiphora non-surgically, and they told me to go to a larger hospital and that they would write a referral.
I received a referral letter and visited a large ophthalmology clinic.
It was really really hard to make a reservation, so I went as a walk-in before the clinic hours and got treated during an empty time.
At that hospital, they said that, as per the first hospital's opinion, the tear duct (tear duct) is blocked at the top and bottom, and in my case, the bottom was blocked.
And I didn't oppose the idea that I wanted to treat my tearing without surgery, and suggested that I try eye drops and injections!
The injection treatment was administered on the same day without any additional reservations.
I underwent a procedure where they administered anesthetic eye drops and opened my tear ducts with a syringe needle. It was painful and sore.
I thought it was a good idea to come to a large hospital when I could have treated my tearing without surgery.
The next follow-up treatment was scheduled for two weeks later. They said they would check to see how my tear ducts were doing over the next two weeks.
However, I was advised that if the discomfort persists without much change from before, I may need surgery.
In fact, epiphora is said to most commonly affect newborns, whose tear glands are underdeveloped, or the elderly. In rare cases, it can also occur in young adults, and I was one of those rare cases. ๐ฅฒ
I am Autologous serum eye drops for dry eye due to tearing I was prescribed it.
It is said that when the tear drainage duct is narrow or blocked, less tears are produced, and both of these conditions commonly occur at the same time.
Dry eye is not something to be taken lightly.
Autologous serum is an eye drop made from your own blood, so it must be kept refrigerated.
I was also prescribed eye ointment and artificial tears.
And I still have expired antibiotic eye drops at home, so I didn't get a prescription for them, but antibiotic eye drops are also necessary to treat my tearing.
I need to observe the progress a bit more, but I am relieved that I was able to treat my tearing without surgery.
If, like me, you experience excessive tearing in your daily life, be sure to visit an ophthalmologist. If they recommend surgery, don't just go ahead and get it done! Be sure to visit other ophthalmologists and try injections and eye drops to treat your tearing first!
