Sharing my experience visiting the hospital for hemorrhoids and how I managed it
My mother had surgery a long time ago for hemorrhoids caused by childbirth. Since then, she has also visited the surgeon due to anal discomfort. I will also share some home care methods.
First. What is the cause of hemorrhoids?
Hemorrhoids are a disease with a 50% incidence rate in individuals over 50 years old. My mother developed hemorrhoids after childbirth, and it is said that most women develop hemorrhoids because they strain during delivery, causing the hemorrhoids to protrude.
Second. What is hemorrhoids?
Most people say they have hemorrhoids, which refers to hemorrhoids, anal fistula, and anal fissure collectively. Hemorrhoids are when the mucous membrane inside the anus protrudes outside the anus! An anal fistula is when pus forms in the tissue around the anus, creating a tunnel! An anal fissure refers to a tear around the anus.
Third. Review of visiting a surgical department with a female doctor.
Fortunately, there is a surgical clinic nearby with a female specialist, so I visited due to anal discomfort. Since a lot of time has passed since the first surgery, I was worried about possibly needing a reoperation, but fortunately, no surgery was necessary. I was advised to manage constipation and to take sitz baths.
Fourth. What home care can prevent the worsening of hemorrhoids?
Constipation can worsen hemorrhoids, so care must be taken to prevent constipation. My mother already consumes a lot of fluids and dietary fiber, but her constipation is severe, so she is receiving help from psyllium husk and laxatives. Recently, she has been taking Gattbium from Korea Yakult and showing improvement in her constipation. Additionally, she was advised to do sitz baths at the hospital, and she bought a sitz bath basin from Coupang. She soaks her anus in warm water for about 5 minutes, 3-4 times a day. After the sitz bath, she dries the area around her anus with a hairdryer. Sitz baths help promote blood circulation and relax the anal sphincter, which reduces pain.
