Treatment and management of cold urticaria and winter skin dryness allergies
Sharing my experience and management tips for winter skin dryness and allergies caused by cold urticaria, which caused itching all night long.
One day, shortly after finishing work, my body started to itch and feel itchy.
I didn't know what to do. I was so itchy that I kept scratching, and the affected areas became completely red and bumpy like skin rashes. Not only on my arms but also on my legs and thighs, it turned so red that it was almost disgusting. It was very itchy, and even spraying water or tapping didn't help; I couldn't stand the itchiness. I thought it was because of dryness, so I took a shower with lukewarm water and applied plenty of moisturizer, but it didn't work. I spent the night trying to resist scratching and gently tapping the area.
It's the first time I've lived alone near the company and experienced illness, so I felt lonely and a bit scared.
Hesitating and procrastinating, as soon as morning broke, I took a half-day leave and went straight to the dermatologist.
So, without any sympathy for the pain I experienced from itching all night, I was told that the cold air exposure (coldness) caused cold urticaria, which can occur when entering indoors and the skin becomes dry. They said it was cold urticaria caused by the cold, and also mentioned that cold urticaria is a type of allergy, so they prescribed medication for a week.
The prescription for cold urticaria includes oral allergy medication and a topical Desowen lotion.
Oral medications contain antihistamines, which help alleviate symptoms.
It is said to provide temporary relief through the administration of adrenal cortex hormone, an immunosuppressant.
Desowon Lotion contains steroids, so once the patient feels calm and better, it should be discontinued immediately.
ย
They also asked whether Italian towels are used.
I always used to use an Italian towel when showering because it makes me feel refreshed, but now I'm told not to use it.
It actually causes dryness of the skin, leading to contact allergies or other allergic reactions.
ย
I hurried home, took my medication, applied ointment, and then reapplied moisturizer thoroughly before going to work.
As you saw in the prescription, you were told to apply Desowen Lotion and then reapply moisturizer.
After a little while, the itchy sensation subsided.
After taking Yakgwa and Lotion for a few days and applying them, the cold urticaria completely disappeared.
Then I looked for and used a moisturizer that provides better hydration.
While commenting on a concern story on Cashdoc, someone mentioned that Illiyoon moisturizer is good, so I looked it up, purchased, and started using it. It really provides much better moisture than what I was using, so I feel less dryness.
ย
Then, I learned a little more about winter cold allergy.
"If you know the enemy, you will win every battle."
Knowing about cold allergy and hives will certainly help with treatment.
As I mentioned above, cold urticaria is a condition characterized by hives caused by exposure of the skin to cold air. When symptoms are severe, it can lead to not only widespread itching but also difficulty breathing and anaphylactic shock.
Simply allergy? I thought it was just hives, but it turned out to be a serious disease.
Cold urticaria causes the skin to swell and turn red when exposed to cold air or cold substances, accompanied by itching, and these symptoms worsen as the skin warms up again.
So, when I came inside from outside into the warm indoor environment, it seems that the symptoms of cold urticaria started to appear.
Cold urticaria is a condition that mainly occurs during the autumn when temperature fluctuations are severe or in winter when temperatures are low.
