Sweating profusely?.. Cause of worsening atopic dermatitis

As summer begins...

I'm also currently suffering from unexplained skin itching.

I'm avoiding taking the dermatology medication because I'm allergic to it, but I'm holding on and enduring...

I'm wondering if it's eczema...

So, I think I should go to the dermatologist soon..

Sweat is also a cause of worsening dermatitis...

I've been taking proper showers and applying moisturizer well..

If I go on vacation at the end of July, I will inevitably have to go to the swimming pool...

I need to find the cause first and eliminate the itch.. ㅠ_ㅠ

People suffering from atopic dermatitis experience repeated cycles of intense itching and inflammation that worsen and subside for various reasons. There is no definitive cure yet.

However, knowing preventive measures to avoid factors that worsen the condition can help manage symptoms. Based on sources such as the American health information outlet 'Everyday Health,' we explored unexpected factors that can exacerbate atopic dermatitis.

Sweat = Atopic dermatitis generally worsens in winter, but some patients experience symptom exacerbation in summer as well. Heat can accelerate the inflammatory response, but the direct issue is sweat.

When sweat evaporates, the skin becomes dry and residues such as urea, lactic acid, and salts remain. These are remnants that can cause rashes. In hot weather, loose clothing made of breathable materials like cotton is recommended. If your clothes become soaked with sweat and cling to your skin, you should change into new clothes.

Natural cosmetics = Atopic dermatitis patients tend to cling to 'natural' or 'organic' products. However, some essential oils can worsen atopic dermatitis symptoms.

Even natural ingredients can cause skin irritation due to strong scents. Low irritation is more important than naturalness. It is advisable to check the ingredient list for any irritating substances such as fragrances or dyes.

Swimming pool = Swimming is an ideal aerobic exercise, but the location is an issue if you have atopic dermatitis. A swimming pool that uses disinfectants is not desirable because disinfectants like chlorine can irritate the skin.

Even if you must go, soaking your body in water for a long time is prohibited. After use, you should thoroughly rinse your body with clean water.

Sea water can also worsen symptoms in some atopic dermatitis patients. This is because the high salinity of seawater draws moisture from the skin through osmosis. Additionally, exposure to ultraviolet rays during water play can cause itching and inflammation.

Warm water showers = Warm showers or baths can relieve stress and improve mood, but they may worsen symptoms for patients with atopic dermatitis. It is best to wash with cold water as much as possible. After gently washing with a mild, low-irritation cleanser, you should immediately apply moisturizer.
