I am a 6th grade boy in elementary school. Starting from the second semester of 5th grade, I began to get small pimples on my forehead, and I tried all the famous skincare products for acne, from foam cleansers, toners, lotions, creams, serums, to topical medications. I bought everything and have used two bottles. Maybe because of hormones, I didn't see much effect. (It might vary for each person.) I purchased popular items from Olive Young and SNS trending products based on internet searches, but I didn't notice any results. Even the well-known spot treatment, TokTok, didn't work for me. Over time, the pimples that were only on my forehead started to appear on my cheeks, one or two at a time. ㅜㅜ
Then, the small pimples started turning into pustular acne, and both the child and I were under a lot of stress. We bought injections and tried to squeeze the pimples, but each time the child said it hurt, and I thought maybe it was just the time for acne to come out and that it would soon go away, but it didn't work.
So I searched for dermatology clinics and selected the ones that seemed good, then started with phone consultations.
I wanted to use topical and oral medication because my child is young and it was difficult to handle. Out of the two selected clinics, one said they would try their dermatology skincare products first and then assess the acne condition before deciding. The second Yonsei Dermatology Clinic said they would evaluate the child's condition and prescribe medication according to my preferences.
I went to Yonsei Dermatology.
Since oral skin medications are not prescribed for those under 13, I received prescriptions for two topical medications.
The forehead area of the skin was prescribed "AC Cure," and the cheek area was prescribed "Adapalene." Since AC Cure has a slightly stronger ingredient, they advised to apply a small amount first and increase the amount gradually if there is no stinging or discomfort. They also said that applying the medication and taking oral medication won't immediately clear up the acne.
Still, applying acne medication will definitely be effective.
Starting to apply the treatment, I noticed that from the third week, the pustular acne started to decrease, and now I have been applying it steadily for about three months, and it has improved. It fluctuates between getting better and worse (probably due to hormones), but definitely, pustular acne does not appear, and it doesn't spread from small bumps, and the amount of acne has definitely decreased. I was told that taking oral medication would be effective, but I only took it when the pustular acne was firm and swollen, so I haven't taken any strong medication. (After my birthday, when the swelling subsided, I was prescribed medication. Around that time, I developed firm, non-pustular acne.)
What I noticed from treating my son's acne is that the medication prescribed by the dermatologist was definitely the most effective. Since this can vary from person to person, be sure to consult a dermatologist!!
As shown in the picture, the red acne has significantly subsided, and the small whiteheads are either present or have disappeared. When consulting a dermatologist, treatment methods vary depending on the clinic, so choose a hospital that provides the skin treatment you desire.
