Review of treatment at a dermatology clinic for hypertrophic scars

There are likely many of you who are concerned about treating hypertrophic scars. I have also tried various methods to treat my hypertrophic scars and am still undergoing treatment. I would like to share my treatment process in the hopes that it will be helpful to those who are interested.
I realized I needed treatment for a hypertrophic scar when I received a BCG vaccination on my shoulder as a child; the injection mark kept growing and steadily rising. Even after becoming an adult, it continued to expand little by little, and because it was unsightly, I couldn't wear sleeveless tops. Although the exact cause of hypertrophic scars is not clearly understood, they typically occur when tissue tension increases during the healing process following trauma, leading to the secretion of excess fibers. While several treatment methods exist, they are generally characterized by being unsatisfactory. The most commonly used method is receiving steroid injections at a dermatology clinic. Since the mark on my shoulder had been there for a long time, I received steroid injections at a dermatology clinic. I received them every 3 to 4 weeks for about a year. Steroid injections inhibit fiber synthesis and help alleviate itching. After about a year of treatment, the scar improved significantly, and the itching largely disappeared. In cases where I get a wound during daily life, I make sure to apply Cica Gel to apply pressure. External pressure therapy is also a treatment method for hypertrophic scars; applying Cica Gel to recent wounds is effective. Depending on the depth and shape of the wound, it may be necessary to keep the gel on for several months. While surgical methods exist, they are not recommended for hypertrophic scar treatment due to the high recurrence rate.
