Since March of this year, the skin on my fingers has started peeling and blisters and dead skin cells have started to form.
At first, I applied ointment at home, but it didn't help, so I ended up going to the hospital and was diagnosed with herpes zoster. It's been 5 months since I started receiving treatment for herpes zoster.
One day, the skin on my fingers suddenly started cracking and acting strangely.
At first, it wasn't that bad, so I thought it was just dry skin. It didn't look that bad in the early photos.
Then, red blisters started to appear little by little.
Later on, the calluses got worse and worse and it was really painful.
I thought it wasn't working, so I went to the hospital and started treatment for herpes zoster right away.
In fact, there is no known cause for herpes zoster, so there is no Eureka! method for treating herpes zoster.
Looking at the reviews of other people suffering from herpes zoster, I also only received a prescription for steroid medication and ointment from a dermatologist and nothing else.
So, I tried harder to do self-care by searching here and there on the internet and YouTube.
I'll share with you the ways I treated herpes zoster.
1. First of all, the most basic treatment for herpes zoster is steroid medication, so I took the medication without fail and applied ointment regularly.
I didn't have to keep taking medicine because the herpes got better for 5 months and then relapsed repeatedly. When it was severe, I even got shots.
Steroids are dangerous if applied every day, so I always take a break. I tried various ointments, but since there are so many, the effects vary from person to person... It took a long time to find the right one.
2. Take nutritional supplements
Everyone says that it is essential to take probiotics. I have been taking probiotics for a long time, and I am also taking omega-3. But in reality, even if you take nutritional supplements, it is difficult to feel changes on your own, right...? However, since herpes zoster is vulnerable to immunity, it is said that it is good to take probiotics even if you do not have herpes zoster in order to improve immunity.
3. Food control
In the treatment of herpes zoster, dietary control is essential along with drug treatment. You must reduce the intake of flour, cookies, ice cream, confectionery, dairy products, and meat.
4. Other
It would be nice if herpes just peeled off, but the problem is that it's so itchy and painful. When I feel like scratching, I use ice packs or cooling mists.
I have been diligently treating my herpes for the past five months, and after several bouts of improvement and relapse, I have finally been able to maintain my clear hands for a long time and have gotten much better.
My middle finger is a little bit sore, but it's really gotten a lot better!!
But this week, I had some work to do and only slept for 4-5 hours, and then a blister appeared on my thumb like a ghost.
I think the cause of my herpes zoster was lack of sleep and fatigue.
It's just a small red blister, but the pain is no joke. Even if I just brush against it, it makes a "Ugh!" sound.
Luckily, it didn't spread any further and my skin is still in good condition.
I heard that treating herpes zoster is really difficult until it is completely cured, but I will not give up and will try hard to manage it.
Thank you for reading this long post!
