(Tip) Management of acne-prone skin during puberty

(Tip) Management of acne-prone skin during puberty

Most people think that acne is exclusive to teenagers during puberty.

However, acne can appear in adults regardless of skin type or environmental factors.

Especially in adults, since the skin's regenerative ability is quite reduced, it can take a considerable amount of time to return to the original state after acne occurs. If skin care is neglected even slightly, acne that has just subsided can reappear, leading to frequent recurrences.

Acne not only makes the skin look dirty and gives an unkempt impression, but also leaves scars as traces. If the symptoms are mild, it may just be due to simple stress, but if acne persists and the skin reaches a serious condition, it can lead to depression and social phobia due to appearance complexes. Therefore, if you are struggling with recurring acne, thorough management is necessary. Here are 7 proper skincare tips for acne-prone skin.

1. Do not squeeze pimples with your hands

When acne appears in a colorful and prominent manner, some people cannot resist and try to squeeze it with their hands. However, since our hands harbor countless invisible bacteria, this can lead to an even worse skin condition. Even when using tools, removing acne through self-care can result in scars and recurrence of acne, so caution is advised.

2. Wash your face thoroughly

If you do not wash properly, various dust, cosmetics, sweat, and sebum can clog pores and cause acne. Above all, if makeup is not thoroughly removed, inflammation can worsen or small pimples may develop.

For women, it is advisable to pay attention to the area around the nose and hairline where makeup residue tends to remain, while men should be cautious about their chin cleansing, which is prone to inflammation due to careless shaving. Rubbing too hard or excessive exfoliation during cleansing can irritate the skin and cause inflammation, so these should be avoided.

3. Avoid oil cleansing

It is not recommended for acne patients to use oil cleansers when removing makeup, as oils are likely to remain on the skin and cause problems. Instead, it is better to use a light cleanser such as a foam, powder, or mousse type that contains antibacterial ingredients or is low in oil and irritation.

4. Consistently use moisturizing products

If you have acne-prone skin, you should also pay careful attention to moisturizing. When summer begins, skin tends to become greasy, and many people neglect skin hydration. However, even if you have oily skin, moisturizing is still necessary. Neglecting hydration can actually lead to increased sebum production, which can worsen acne. Therefore, to prevent the recurrence of acne, it is advisable to consistently use a moisturizer that is perfectly suited to your skin type.

5. Do not expose yourself directly to the heater or air conditioner airflow

During winter, heaters are often used, and in summer, air conditioners are frequently operated indoors. However, these can also be factors that worsen acne, so caution is needed. The wind from heaters and air conditioners dries out the surrounding air, reducing moisture in the skin. Therefore, if you have severe acne, you should avoid direct exposure to the wind from heaters and air conditioners.

6. Abstain from alcohol and smoking, and ensure sufficient restful sleep

Good overall health leads to healthy skin. Alcohol stimulates acne and pimples during the breakdown process, worsening symptoms, while nicotine in cigarettes constricts blood vessels, drying out the skin. Additionally, lack of sleep rapidly deteriorates the skin, so avoiding alcohol and cigarettes and getting enough sleep are the keys to overall immunity and skin regeneration.

7. Avoid cosmetics containing alcohol and those high in oil.

When you have acne, avoid using alcohol-based lotions and oily foundation.

There are various types of acne. Red acne can become irritated and painful when it comes into contact with alcohol, or it may become even more red.

Additionally, Yuseong foundation tends to clog pores, leading to the formation of acne, and since it is often rubbed off when removing makeup, the surface of the acne is prone to becoming inflamed. Therefore, it is better to choose a foundation in a light powder form or an emulsion type.

Lately, my teenage daughter has been getting a lot of pimples on her forehead, and I've been worried about it...

Since I removed my bangs and washed my face thoroughly, it has calmed down a lot.
