In my case, a skin cyst developed on my earlobe in June 2018. At first, it looked like a small lump. My ear also appeared slightly swollen. I thought it would go away quickly, but after about two weeks, it became incredibly painful to touch, and my earlobe swelled to the point where it appeared to be twice its original size.

At first, I didn't know what it was, so I went to a dermatologist. They said it looked like a skin cyst and told me to go to a surgical department, so I went to a nearby mid-sized hospital. Skin cysts are lumps (pockets) that form when pores become clogged with excessive sebum production, and they say there are genetic factors involved. My father also had a skin cyst removed from his ear around my age. After a brief medical interview, they confirmed it was a skin cyst. They scheduled the surgery for a week later and gave me medication. I was given a seven-day supply of oral medication and Eiroban ointment.

The long-awaited surgery day arrived, and compared to how nervous I was going in, it was a relatively easy experience. I was given an anesthetic injection around the surgical site, and the surgery began 10 minutes later. The anesthetic injection was so painful that I can confidently say it was the most painful injection I've ever had. The surgery itself took about 10 minutes, and the doctor showed me the cyst that had been removed. Fortunately, the cyst wasn't large, so he was able to remove the entire cyst without damaging it. Even a minor surgery is still surgery, so they sutured the area (with two stitches), gave me some post-operative medication, and sent me home.

I took medication and had a disinfectant for a week, and because the surgical site was my ear, washing my hair for a week was a struggle. I was worried that water might get into the surgical site and cause inflammation, but I managed to get through it and went to the hospital to have the stitches removed.
