Symptoms, Treatment Methods, and Removal Reviews of Inside-the-Ear Skin Cysts
I have had skin cysts on my ears twice; once on my earlobe and once inside my ear.
Skin cyst symptoms are easily confused with pimples, so people often miss the opportunity for early treatment. That happened to me, too.
So, I am leaving a review to help you quickly recognize the symptoms and treatment of skin cysts, so that you do not miss the timing for early treatment like I did.
This is a photo of a skin cyst that grew inside the ear.
First of all, it wasn't this big from the beginning!! ㅠㅠ It was small so I didn't pay attention to it, but I only realized later that it had been getting bigger.
The symptoms of my skin cyst were almost identical to those of a pimple. It was swollen, painful, and couldn't be squeezed. I thought it would go away over time, but unlike a pimple, it kept getting bigger, and when I touched it, it felt like a hard lump. So I thought, "Ah, this must be the symptom of a skin cyst?!" and went to the hospital.
As expected, after listening to my story, the hospital confirmed that the symptoms were indeed a skin cyst.
When I first got a skin cyst, I had an incision and stitches done at a dermatology clinic. They use the cutting method because the entire cyst sac needs to be removed. However, the dermatology clinic I usually go to was closed that day, so I went to a nearby surgery clinic, and they told me they would remove it using the pinhole method instead of the incision method.
The pinhole method is a technique that removes sebum and the cyst through a very small hole made without cutting the skin. Therefore, it has the advantage of leaving a small scar. However, I was told that the pinhole method is not suitable for all skin cysts, and that an incision may be necessary depending on the symptoms and size of the cyst. Hearing that, I felt glad I had come to the surgery department as I headed to the operating room.
I received an anesthetic injection before the surgery. The injection really hurt... Fortunately, after the anesthesia wore off, there was a slight throbbing sensation, but no major pain.
Fortunately, I only had significant swelling, and since the cyst inside wasn't as big as I thought, they didn't stitch it up!! I think the pinhole method is really great because you don't need to make an incision if the size is small! So, the treatment ended with just applying a bandage.
After surgery
A scab has formed. Considering how much it was swollen, the swelling has completely gone down.
I have recovered a lot now and am in good condition.
The scab has fallen off, but since the skin on my ear is thin and the hole was pierced with a needle, there are still needle marks. I think it will take a little more time for those marks to disappear. Even if they don't go away, they aren't very noticeable, so I don't think it will be a problem.
I have a belated thought that if I had known it would end this cleanly, I should have gone to the hospital as soon as the symptoms of the skin cyst appeared; perhaps it would have been even cleaner without any marks.
If you notice even the slightest symptoms of a skin cyst, do not delay and go to the hospital immediately. Please go to a dermatology or surgery clinic that uses the pinhole method rather than the incision method!
