What kind of treatment does the dentist provide when the gums are swollen?

Hello.
My gums are swollen and slightly painful, but not severely. When I go to the dentist, how will they treat it? Will they just apply medication or prescribe medicine? It depends on the condition, but from what I can see visually, it doesn't seem too serious. I'm unsure whether I should go to the dentist or not.

블루버드잇몸이 부우면 무섭더라구요..치과를 가야해서..ㅎ 혹시 신경치료 하자 할까봐서요.. 그런데 약물치료를 한다하니 너무 다행이네요..ㅎ 왜 그리 저는 치과가 무서운지..ㅋ
