[Question] Is a mouthguard necessary for tooth fracture caused by tooth wear?

[Question] Is a mouthguard necessary for tooth fracture caused by tooth wear?

While eating snacks, my lower front tooth chipped.

The tooth was on the inside, but the broken part was quite large and the surface was rough, so I couldn't avoid going to the dentist.

The next day, I went straight to the dentist, and the doctor said that the two glass shards overlapping each other, either cracked vertically or fallen off, are not easily broken or separated, as if only one side has detached.

When asked about the cause of the tooth fracture, it was explained that the patient often grinds their teeth vigorously while sleeping or clenches their jaw tightly due to stress, leading to significant tooth wear and resulting in the tooth fracture.

I don't grind my teeth when I sleep, but I guess I have a habit of clenching my teeth without realizing it.

First, the treatment method should be a crown or resin, but since the patient is still young, it was decided to start with resin treatment rather than placing a crown, so the patient received treatment accordingly.

According to the doctor, both the upper and lower teeth are severely worn down.

What I am curious about is whether wearing a mouthpiece while sleeping, as the doctor mentioned, can delay future tooth wear, and I want to know if it is a treatment I really need.

The price of the mouthpiece is 300,000 won, so it's quite expensive.

One of the blessings is teeth, so I want to take good care of them, but suddenly this kind of situation occurs, and there are also cost issues.

I know that mouthpieces are often used by people with temporomandibular joint issues, but I wonder if people like me with tooth wear also need to wear them.
