Inappropriate sunscreen

Sunscreens are broadly divided into natural ingredients and chemical ingredients. Using products with ingredients that do not match your skin type can cause trouble. Natural ingredients include zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, and kaolin. These ingredients form a white film on the skin surface to block ultraviolet rays. Such sunscreens are good for people with sensitive skin, infants, and patients with atopic dermatitis. However, because natural ingredients can clog pores and suppress sebum secretion, people prone to acne or pimples should avoid them.

On the other hand, chemical sunscreen ingredients contain oxybenzone, avobenzone, octyl methoxycinnamate, and others, which are absorbed into the epidermis and dermis to absorb ultraviolet rays and protect the skin. These products do not clog pores, making them suitable for people prone to acne or pimples. Even if someone has acne-prone skin, applying chemical sunscreen does not typically cause other problems due to the mild irritation.

Dirt, keratin, and waste mixed bedding

Bedding that comes into direct contact with the skin every day can affect skin condition. Using unclean pillows and blankets can lead to the accumulation of sweat, dead skin cells, and waste products, increasing the risk of bacterial growth. According to a study by Seoul National University’s Department of Life Sciences, bacteria detected on pillows were 96 times more than those found in toilets. Prolonged use without proper washing can penetrate the skin or mucous membranes of the respiratory tract, potentially causing contact dermatitis such as acne, hives, or eczema. Pillowcases and blankets should be washed at least once every 1-2 weeks, and pillow inserts should be washed more than once every three months. If difficult, daily tapping or shaking outside can help remove dead skin and dust. Additionally, airing them in the sun for at least 30 minutes once a week is recommended.

Residuals of rinse and conditioner

If you frequently experience trouble around your ears, neck, or forehead, it could be due to residue from rinses and conditioners. Rinses and conditioners contain proteins, amino acids, softeners, keratin oils, and other ingredients aimed at improving hair health. They also include oil-based components that coat the hair surface. Therefore, if residues are not thoroughly rinsed out and remain on the skin, they can clog pores and cause skin troubles. It is advisable to carefully wash the areas where hair touches the scalp and rinse your hair until the slick feeling disappears.

Unused puff, brush

Using a puff or brush for makeup application without washing them for a long time can cause acne or pimples. Cushion puffs and brushes come into direct contact with the skin, making it easy for sebum, dead skin cells, sweat, and waste products to mix together. When touching up makeup outdoors, fine dust on the skin also gets mixed in. In fact, a broadcast measured the bacterial count of a sponge puff used for a long period, which resulted in 382 RLU. This is nearly half the level found in a toilet. To prevent bacterial growth, it is recommended to wash puffs and brushes once a week and replace them with new ones after six months.
