How to reapply sunscreen over makeup without smudging

To prevent skin aging, sunscreen is no longer optional but essential! I try to apply it whenever I have a bare face, but I find it difficult to reapply over makeup. So, I’ve gathered methods to reapply sunscreen while maintaining your makeup as much as possible!

How to reapply sunscreen over makeup without smudging

Believe in the power of the cushion

The great invention of K-beauty, the cushion! Cushion-type base makeup products typically include some level of UV protection. There are also "sun cushions" that contain sunscreen, ranging from those designed for kids to those with tone-up functions, released in various types. If it's difficult to apply sunscreen properly while looking in the mirror, simply reapplying cushion throughout the day can provide UV protection. Alternatively, applying sunscreen with a cushion puff can also be an effective method.

Removing excess oil is not an option but a necessity!

Before reapplying sunscreen, first remove the overall oiliness of your skin with oil blotting paper. Applying sunscreen directly on oily skin can cause it to clump or lift, so spreading it smoothly is easier. Especially in areas like the sides of the nose where makeup tends to stick, be sure to thoroughly remove excess oil to prevent the base makeup from becoming messy when reapplying sunscreen. After removing the oil, spray a mist for hydration or dampen a sponge with water, squeeze out excess, and then dab the sunscreen onto your skin, applying it as if building up layers on your face.

Let's add physical barriers.

For oily skin, it is recommended to reapply sunscreen every 2 to 3 hours, and for dry skin, every 5 to 6 hours. However, keeping this schedule can be challenging for busy modern people. Many also find it uncomfortable and feel they cannot do it at all. In such cases, add a 'physical barrier' such as an umbrella or a hat. If you don't have an umbrella at home or are expecting rain and brought an umbrella instead of a parasol, please use that umbrella. More important than what you use is to create a physical barrier between the sun and your skin. For those who find it difficult to reapply sunscreen over makeup for various reasons, actively use umbrellas or hats.
