Initial symptoms and prevention guidelines for cerebral infarction
Hello.
I am planning to write about the early symptoms and prevention methods of ischemic stroke. About five years ago, when I woke up in the morning and was doing household chores, I suddenly felt that I couldn't properly step on one of my feet and experienced discomfort. I felt a tingling sensation and thought it would get better, so I tried walking, but one leg did not straighten out and remained uncomfortable. My family noticed my condition that morning and felt something was wrong. I had learned through the media that when a stroke occurs, the body becomes uncomfortable on one side and speech becomes slurred.
So, the family members were also surprised and felt that something was seriously wrong, so they immediately headed to the hospital. Since stroke is known as a "golden hour" condition, we believed that rushing was the most important thing. Therefore, we had all the necessary tests done at a general hospital, including CT and MRI scans. However, nothing indicating a stroke was found. Still, because my leg continued to be uncomfortable, I went directly to another hospital with my imaging documents, where they performed re-scans and admitted me. During that time, my foot condition worsened, and I became increasingly weak, but the test results still did not show a stroke, and the medical staff also said they couldn't determine what was wrong.
So, I also underwent a neurological examination, and since I responded properly to the test, it was determined that it was not a stroke. However, they told the family members that it could be a rare disease, and they tried to guide and connect us to a university hospital. They also mentioned that the medication costs would be high because the drugs had to be imported from overseas. Nevertheless, hearing that it might be a rare disease, I thought it would be burdensome to be re-admitted to a university hospital and undergo more tests, so I returned home. Ultimately, my condition gradually improved and I got better again. Later, I thought that perhaps the side effects of the hyperlipidemia medication I was taking at that time might have been the cause.
Experiencing this incident prompted me to study more about cerebral infarction as well. These days, there are many young people visiting hospitals. Body care should be consistent and habitual regardless of age.
Symptoms of cerebral infarction include paralysis on one side of the body, slurred speech, and severe headaches. Once it occurs, recovery is difficult, so prevention is the most important. Cerebral infarction has a higher incidence rate among people with chronic conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and hyperlipidemia, as well as those who smoke, drink excessively, or have heart disease, so special care must be taken.
Since stroke prevention is the top priority before the onset of a stroke rather than treatment after it occurs, it is recommended to engage in at least 30 minutes of aerobic exercise daily to the point of sweating for stroke prevention. If you have chronic illnesses, it is also important to regularly monitor and manage these conditions through consistent check-ups. Additionally, it is advised to consume sufficient amounts of fruits, vegetables, dietary fiber, fish, and nuts.
