(Diabetes and Teeth) Does diabetes affect gum disease?

Does diabetes affect gum disease?

A. Blood sugar and gums influence each other.

Gum health and blood sugar levels are closely related.

Bacteria that cause gum disease also cause inflammation in the blood vessels. This reduces blood vessel function and disrupts glucose metabolism.

Bacteria can travel through the blood vessels to the pancreas and damage the insulin-secreting cells.

According to a study conducted at the University of Birmingham in the UK, people with gum disease are

They were 26% more likely to develop diabetes than people who did not have it.

In particular, diabetic patients need to be careful because poor oral health increases the risk of developing cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.

To prevent diabetes, diabetic patients should keep their mouths clean on a regular basis to prevent cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.

Be sure to brush your teeth after meals to eliminate bacteria in your mouth. Also, pay attention to blood sugar control.

One-line summary: Brushing your teeth is the foundation for maintaining oral health and blood sugar levels!
