A one-month treatment experience for urticaria at the allergy department
My son has been developing hives for a few months now.
I was unaware of hives, so I neglected it, and it eventually became chronic. Currently, I am visiting an allergy clinic to receive medication and treatment.
I am leaving this review in hopes that my son's experience will be helpful to someone else.
It seems like it's been more than four months. My son started developing hives in the evening.
It was not severe; it was a mild hives with about 2 to 3 localized spots on the neck, chest, and back.
It disappears in an hour or two, and since there are no hives during the day, I didn't think I needed to go to the hospital.
I am trying to find out if there is a specific cause for the hives, so I am also limiting my food intake.
I made my own efforts by cleaning the house more diligently and trying different ways of dressing or showering, but
It didn't seem to be related to any specific food or situation.
It just developed hives in the evening and disappeared within an hour or two.
Still, just in case, I minimized foods containing flour and synthetic additives in my daily life.
However, despite such efforts
At first, the hives appeared once every 3 to 4 days, but over time they started appearing more frequently, and since a month or two ago, they have been appearing every day.
It seemed that the area of hives was gradually expanding, and during the day, localized hives began to appear.
I thought I couldn't do it, so I went to the pediatrician I usually visit.
The teacher said, "It's because the child is young, and many mothers come to get emergency medication for such reasons."
They prescribed Dodurejin syrup and Lidomax ointment to use when hives appear.
Doodrijin is an antihistamine.
It is a medication that suppresses histamine, which causes hives.
When I gave the Dodrin syrup, the hives disappeared after just one dose and did not reappear for three days.
I thought it would get better like this, but after three days, it inevitably came back, and so I kept taking medication every three days.
I studied more diligently about hives because I thought I should receive better medical care.
It turns out that hives usually improve within a month (acute hives).
When it lasts longer than six weeks, it is diagnosed as chronic urticaria.
And in the case of chronic conditions, the medication must be adjusted according to the doctor's diagnosis, and it may need to be taken for several months to several years.
It wasn't something I should have done by giving medication arbitrarily.
Realizing that pediatric care alone is insufficient, I searched for a place capable of providing specialized treatment.
I found out that there is an allergy clinic nearby, so I visited immediately.
This is Sumsarang Internal Medicine Clinic located in Gagyeong-dong.
As an allergy and immunology clinic, this place is a hospital specialized in asthma, allergies, and hives, and also offers allergy immunotherapy.
When I explained the progress so far to the doctor, he immediately diagnosed it as chronic hives.
The fundamental treatment for chronic urticaria is to take medication daily before the appearance of hives.
He said that I need to take it consistently for the next few months.
However, the hives did not appear for three days after taking dose 1.
The hives are not severe, judging by the localized patches and small spots.
You were prescribed a mild medication.
This is the Alsetin and Rukiochu tablets prescribed for my son.
Among these, Alsetin is an antihistamine similar to Dodrinjin.
Doodrin syrup is classified as a first-generation, Alsetin as a second-generation (sometimes third-generation).
Generations 2 to 3 are considered to have improved upon the side effects of Generation 1 and to have enhanced the effectiveness.
Therefore, Doodrin syrup has side effects such as drowsiness, but Alsetin has far fewer side effects and can be taken for a long time without concern.
There is also a difference in prescriptions between pediatrics and allergy and immunology in this regard.
The son took half a pill in the morning and evening, totaling one pill daily.
No hives were visible at all while taking the medication.
An allergy test was also conducted on this day.
You must have worked up a sweat drawing blood, huh? The child was a bit scared, but.
The doctor kindly encouraged and comforted me, so I was able to have my blood drawn without difficulty.
And I visited again a week later to hear the test results.
The test results showed that my son did not have any substances that specifically cause allergies.
I was stunned when I first saw this result.
I wasn't sure if it was good or bad.
It's good that there are no allergies, but then what is this rash? What more should I do for the child? I didn't know.
However, the doctor said it was positive.
There are no substances that cause allergies, and the severity is mild, so if you take the medication properly for a few months, it should get better.
Chronic hives are mostly caused by unknown reasons.
I finally felt relieved. In the meantime, I looked at various reviews on the internet.
I was really distressed by the thought that even after many years, it wouldn't get better and eventually couldn't be controlled with medication.
However, after undergoing this examination and receiving a positive diagnosis from an allergy specialist, I felt much more at ease.
The child was prescribed a month's worth of medication again.
From now on, based on your diagnosis, you will be taking medication for several months.
I often regret thinking that if I had received treatment early on, it might not have become chronic.
Fortunately, the pill is very small and the child can take it easily.
Since there is no hives, I guess they feel comfortable too.
I hope to be able to write that I was fully recovered in a few months.
If you develop hives,
Please do not neglect it and visit a specialized hospital quickly to be cured before it becomes chronic.
