Six symptoms of hypothyroidism I experienced
I am in my 50s and had difficulty finding the cause of various physical discomforts at the hospital, but through a blood test, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism.
Since I was a teenager, I have always been tired and had no appetite, so after going to school, I had to lie down and take a nap.
However, even as I got older, these symptoms persisted, but my skin became dry, and when I washed my hair, it would shed in clumps. My heart would sometimes beat rapidly and fearfully for no reason, and I also started experiencing swelling in my calves that would take a long time to recover after pressing down.
Chronic fatigue and swelling have been caused by long-term intake of high-dose nutritional supplements.
I considered other physical symptoms as just "aging?" and didn't think much of them, but I was scared when my heart started pounding.
So I had an echocardiogram and a stress test at the hospital, but they found no abnormalities. I'm suffering, but I couldn't find a place to get help.
It was strange that I had a heart ultrasound every 2 or 3 years, so the hospital suggested doing a thyroid test with a blood test, and the results came back indicating hypothyroidism.
I was so glad to know the diagnosis.
Because knowing the diagnosis makes treatment possible.
Until now, the irregular heartbeat and all those symptoms were due to hypothyroidism.
After performing a thyroid ultrasound, it was determined that I do not have thyroid cancer, and I am only taking medication for hypothyroidism to steadily supplement the deficient thyroid hormones. I have been taking one tablet of the hypothyroidism medication "Synthroid" every morning on an empty stomach, 30 minutes before breakfast, for over 10 years.
The doctor told me not to worry about taking this medicine for a lifetime and to think of it as taking a tonic, so I should take one pill.
Some people say they stop taking the medication on their own after a short period, but I think of this medicine as a tonic, and I start my morning by taking one pill for hypothyroidism when I wake up.
It's a medication that makes my heart beat peacefully, so I take it happily.
Other symptoms have improved to the point where they do not interfere with daily life.
I also maintain a balanced diet regularly and don't particularly eat more or avoid certain foods.
