Last year, approximately 14% of the total population in our country was diagnosed with hypertension. Hypertension is a risk factor that increases the likelihood of major causes of death such as heart attack, stroke, aneurysm, cognitive decline, and kidney failure, even if there are no specific symptoms.

You can lower blood pressure with water, but side effects such as leg cramps, dizziness, and insomnia may occur. Fortunately, there are ways to naturally lower blood pressure in daily life without using medication. Here are five methods introduced by Men's Health magazine in the United States for naturally lowering blood pressure.

Power walking attempt = Hypertensive patients who walk quickly experience a decrease in blood pressure of nearly 8 mmHg to 6 mmHg. Exercise helps the heart use oxygen more efficiently, making it less strenuous to pump blood. Exercise is one of the best ways to stop hypertension and keep the heart healthy. Engaging in vigorous aerobic exercise for more than 30 minutes a day, at least 5 days a week, can lower blood pressure. It is recommended to increase speed or distance to continue training the heart.

Switching to decaffeinated coffee = According to a study by Duke University Medical Center in the United States, when caffeine intake reaches 500mg, drinking three cups of coffee a day causes blood pressure to rise by 4mmHg. This increase was observed until just before sleep. Caffeine can constrict blood vessels and raise blood pressure. Stress also pumps more blood into the heart, increasing blood pressure, and consuming caffeine during this time can exacerbate the effect. Therefore, if you are concerned about blood pressure, it is better to drink decaffeinated coffee rather than regular coffee.

Let's get away from the desk = Sitting for long periods can be deadly to health in the long run. According to a study by the University of California, Irvine, working more than 41 hours a week while sitting increases the risk of hypertension by 15%. Even if you have a heavy workload, it is advisable to take short breaks for stretching or walking exercises.

How to eliminate snoring = If you are still neglecting snoring, pay attention. Snoring can also raise blood pressure. Snoring that disturbs sleep is one of the main symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). According to a research team from the University of Alabama, many sleep apnea patients have high levels of the hormone aldosterone, which can increase blood pressure. There are also studies indicating that half of sleep apnea patients have hypertension.

If you have sleep apnea, it is common to experience multiple brief episodes of breathing cessation during sleep. Even when you have high blood pressure, sleep apnea could be the cause, so it is recommended to visit a hospital for an examination.

Being close to a loved one = A study conducted by psychologists at the University of Arizona in the United States with 102 participants found that people who are physically closer to their romantic partners tend to have lower blood pressure. Even when asked to think of their partner, those with lower blood pressure were observed, although their blood pressure was not as low as that of people actually sitting next to their partner. This study measured instantaneous blood pressure, which differs from hypertension, but it revealed a pattern consistent with the idea that close relationships with intimate partners and close family members can improve health outcomes.
