What is bromhidrosis?

 

This is a condition in which odor occurs due to excessive or abnormal secretion of apocrine sweat glands among the countless sweat glands present in the body.

 

 

Causes of Bromhidrosis

Eccrine glands are sweat glands distributed throughout the entire body, mainly found on the palms, soles, armpits, and forehead, while apocrine glands are mostly located in the armpits.

 

When you exercise or when the weather is hot, the sweat that is produced by the eccrine glands helps regulate body temperature, while sweat from the apocrine glands occurs when you are stressed or nervous. Bromhidrosis is a condition characterized by excessive secretion from the apocrine glands, which reacts with bacteria to produce an unpleasant odor in the armpits.

 

Deodorant should be applied every day of the year, and the armpit area of white clothes turns yellow after wearing them for a long time, so I avoid wearing light-colored clothes. On very hot days, I don't plan to go outside and walk around.

 

I have habits I’ve been doing since I was young, so I don’t know many people around me, but I think it’s a source of stress for myself. It’s also a problem that I become passive in social relationships due to bromhidrosis when I’m working in society.

 

I have never received treatment separately until now.

Treatment methods for bromhidrosis

 

If the symptoms have already progressed, treatment rather than prevention is necessary. Currently, the most common procedure is a small incision in the axilla to remove some subcutaneous fat and apocrine glands.
