[Concern] It's difficult to get implants if you have osteoporosis~

Among my family members, someone has osteoporosis, and they took medication for a few years starting in their 60s, then later managed it with an injection every three months.

Even if you receive osteoporosis injections and manage your condition, you cannot reverse the already deteriorated bone health, only prevent it from worsening. That's why you keep experiencing fractures in your knees and wrists.

Once you have a fracture, the suffering is so great that it pains my heart.

During a knee fracture, a metal rod is inserted, and for a while, you can't move at all, enduring months of antibiotic injections and various medications... you suffered for several months.

Wrist fracture also involves pins, casts, antibiotics...

My bones became weak due to osteoporosis, so I experienced fractures very easily.

Since I can't move at all while in a cast, my muscle strength and bone health become weaker, and when the cast is removed, I can see and feel that my muscles have shrunk visibly.

Recently, your teeth haven't been in good condition, so you went to the dentist, and they said you need to undergo an implant procedure.

The problem is that if you want to get an implant, you shouldn't receive osteoporosis injections for a while.

It takes at least about six months to perform an implant procedure...

I'm worried about how to manage my osteoporosis without getting the injection, especially since my bone health isn't good and fractures tend to happen easily.

If you have osteoporosis, treatment is given through medication or injections. The role of the treatment is said to be to suppress bone destruction.

Implants are said to have a higher success rate when the implant metal is firmly attached to the bone. However, if you receive osteoporosis injections, the implant may not bond well, and in severe cases, there is a risk of bone necrosis. Therefore, if you are planning dental treatment, it is recommended to switch to a milder osteoporosis medication that does not affect the implant or to temporarily stop taking the medication.

Since I have severe osteoporosis, I receive strong medication or injections, but switching to a weaker medication might help.

You have all heard of osteoporosis, right?

Osteoporosis?

Usually, bone destruction and bone formation occur simultaneously, but if bone destruction exceeds formation, the bones become weakened, which can lead to osteoporosis in severe cases.

In women, bone density begins to decrease after menopause and drops sharply after about three years, so it seems important to manage health well during this period.

I need to take care of my bone health before it gets worse~ It's really not easy at all.

In the case of my family

Since my teeth are not in good condition, I need to get implants, but I haven't been able to receive osteoporosis injections for a few months before the treatment, and my bone health is already poor, so I am worried about how to manage it during the treatment.

After looking into various related matters

Generally,

To reduce bone destruction and increase bone formation

They say that eating plenty of foods that help bone health and doing exercises that strengthen bones are beneficial.

You should eat a balanced diet without making the food too salty.

Animal protein should be consumed in moderation.

If you eat excessively, you can excrete calcium through your urine.

Bone = Calcium

Eating only a lot of calcium does not make bones stronger; calcium, magnesium, vitamin K, vitamin D, and others are also necessary.

For osteoporosis, a daily calcium intake of approximately 800 to 1000 mg is recommended.

I have prepared foods fortified with calcium.

Approximately 200mg per pack of high-calcium soy milk

Approximately 380mg per piece of high-calcium cheese

Anchovies and dried fish are often used, but since they are salty, you can't eat too much.

Calcium in vegetables such as perilla leaves, cabbage, and broccoli has a low absorption rate.

You shouldn't only eat foods high in calcium; you need to consume calcium-rich foods along with other nutrients, and eat a balanced diet.

Exercises that strengthen the bones

This is a weight-bearing exercise.

Walking quickly

Half squat, if your knees hurt, do a half squat with your back against the wall

Lift your heels, stand up and sit down from a chair about 10 times, repeat approximately 3 times.

Drawing on the wall and doing push-ups

People with weak bones should exercise carefully to avoid falling.

It's good to exercise slowly.

I have informed your family about dietary therapy and exercise therapy.

Before developing osteoporosis, it is possible to prevent osteoporosis through diet and exercise alone.

I am worried whether osteoporosis, which has progressed like my family, can be managed only with these foods and exercises.

Even if you eat well, you might not get enough calcium, magnesium, and vitamin D. These days, since you shouldn't be directly exposed to sunlight and often use sunscreen, vitamin D synthesis can be insufficient, so I'm also considering supplements.

There is also a concern that taking calcium as a supplement could lead to excessively high blood calcium levels, causing calcium to stick to the blood vessels or organs and resulting in calcification. Should I take it in a low dose? There is an abundance of information, but I am unsure how to apply it.

If anyone has experience successfully performing implant procedures on family members with severe osteoporosis like mine, please share your advice.
