Are there people worried about or suffering from diabetes?
My mother has diabetes, so I researched various ways to help her, and I will share some tips for diabetes prevention and management with you.
<Diabetes Prevention Methods>
Exercise 3 to 4 times a week
Regular moderate to vigorous exercise on a daily basis is recommended.
Using commuting time for walking, taking the stairs instead of the elevator, morning exercises, and cycling 3 to 4 times a week.
For obese individuals, it is acceptable to exercise at any time before or after a meal when only following a dietary plan. However, for patients using oral hypoglycemic agents or insulin, exercising after a meal is preferable to prevent hypoglycemia. Obesity is a cause of diabetes, and maintaining an appropriate weight through exercise is essential.
2. Abstain from alcohol and quit smoking this week
Alcohol contains no nutrients but is quite high in calories, so it is best to avoid it. Quitting smoking is essential because it reduces systemic inflammation and lowers the risk of diabetes. Additionally, it is a way to prevent various diseases beyond diabetes. When diabetic patients smoke, it can lead to arteriosclerosis and cause cardiovascular diseases.
3. Healthy eating habits
Avoid high-fat and high-carbohydrate meals and consume foods with appropriate calories. High-fat foods have high calories even in small amounts, which can raise cholesterol levels and increase blood sugar levels. Simple sugars are concentrated sources of calories and are quickly absorbed during digestion, potentially causing rapid blood sugar spikes, so intake of sugar or honey and other simple sugars should be limited. Additionally, excessive salt intake can raise blood pressure, so it is advisable to develop a habit of eating lightly seasoned foods.
4. Regular health check-ups
Adults aged 30 and over with risk factors or over 40 years old should undergo regular annual screenings to prevent diabetes.
5. Avoid stress
Stress, the root cause of many illnesses, is also closely related to diabetes. For diabetic patients, stress can be a factor that causes blood sugar control problems. When stress hormones raise blood sugar levels or worsen the condition, the risk of developing diabetic complications increases.
Breathing exercises, relaxation techniques, physical activity, and joining diabetes support groups also help relieve stress.
