Shingles prodrome symptoms: itching and unbearable pain

I always thought shingles was all about pain, but the prodrome of shingles is actually accompanied by severe itching before the pain. When shingles occurs near the face, the prodrome is often accompanied by a severe headache.

I was so itchy that I scratched like crazy, and my entire thigh was covered in bruises. And along with the itching, the pain was unbearable, like my bones and flesh were burning. Someone once said that the pain from shingles was worse than the pain of childbirth.
