For those newly diagnosed with diabetes and afraid that their blood sugar won't decrease, dear diabetic friends
I know it's a bit awkward to say this about the topic of young diabetics (children with diabetes), but...
I'm afraid my blood sugar won't drop~
There are many people who worry, saying, "Even after eating and exercising, my blood sugar is this high."
First of all, diabetes is a disease that mainly results from decreased pancreatic function or increased insulin resistance due to reasons such as visceral obesity or fatty liver.
In cases of diabetes caused by decreased pancreatic function
The kidneys are organs that rarely recover once their function declines.
The pancreas is the same.
So, if pancreatic insufficiency has already occurred, achieving complete recovery of the pancreas and escaping diabetes is almost a dream.
The solution at this time is to establish regular and proper eating habits (eating the recommended amount for diabetics, eating a balanced diet, and eating on time) so that the pancreas, which has decreased function, can develop a habit of doing its job properly and consistently.
Doing double exercises can instantly burn blood sugar during workouts, and as muscles grow, basal metabolic rate also increases, helping to partially compensate for the decreased function of the pancreas.
If medication is also administered here, it will be easier to manage blood sugar levels within the appropriate range.
@ In cases of high insulin resistance
Pancreatic function is very vigorous (meaning insulin secretion is very good), but high blood sugar is simply because of being overweight (including thin obesity).
Visceral fat and fatty liver interfere with the pancreas's ability to distinguish when it should work and when it should stop.
Moreover, these fats can make insulin sluggish, causing poor glucose processing.
For example
When the glucose I consume in a meal is 100, and non-diabetics resolve everything with 100 units of insulin, then
People with high insulin resistance need insulin levels of 300 to 400 when blood glucose is 100 for it to be manageable.
Diabetic patients with high insulin resistance have insulin levels of 300 to 400 even when their blood glucose is 100, which cannot be fully managed.
To put it simply about insulin here
Insulin is the worker, muscles are the storage, and glucose is the carbohydrate.
Even if there are many workers (if insulin is well produced), if the warehouse is small (if muscle mass is low), there is nowhere to store the cargo, leading to high blood sugar levels (maintaining hyperglycemia).
To return to insulin resistance and explain it again
Excessive insulin secretion (overproduction) can lead to the overworking of the pancreas in the long term.
So, even though insulin is produced well, most people with postprandial blood sugar levels that are high tend to develop diabetes if they cannot manage it properly (because overworking the pancreas leads to decreased function).
In summary, insulin resistance can be somewhat alleviated by increasing muscle mass and reducing body fat, especially visceral fat.
So, it means you have to exercise.
Most diabetics often have decreased pancreatic function combined with high insulin resistance.
That's why it's called lifelong management.
Come back to the title... new members~
You didn't manage your diet before knowing you had diabetes, right?
You didn't exercise before being diagnosed with diabetes, did you?
But now I try to be careful with my diet, exercise, and also take medication.
I ended up doing three things I never did before~
Then, blood sugar cannot be lowered.
The problem is that I have to do this consistently for a lifetime.
It's been less than a week or two since you started managing your condition, so please don't say that your blood sugar isn't stable right now.
Many of our cafe members have been managing for several months, several years, or even several decades.
Don't compare yourself to those people right now; focus on what you can do at your current level, learn a lot from Danggeon, and gain indirect experience to build your know-how. Your blood sugar will definitely stabilize.
Don't worry about diabetic complications right now, but you must consistently manage your medication, exercise, and diet.
Cheering for all the fellow doctors...
Fighting!!!!!!
