(Health Checkup Tip) Complete your first colonoscopy with OnePrep~

I had my first colonoscopy last year.

The groom had done it even before entering his 40s...

I'm sensitive to disgust... I'm afraid to drink the water that supposedly damages the incredible sense of disgust and to take medicine...

I only had an upper endoscopy without sedation, just awake.

However, I only did the basic health checkup and found out about a serious illness too late.

I'm really lucky, I recovered well...

My groom strongly insisted that he must also undergo a colonoscopy...

I decided to have a colonoscopy with a big heart.

And, while searching for a somewhat easier way to do it,

The way my mother and mother-in-law undergo colonoscopy, based on stories I've heard and searches I've done.

I was able to perform colonoscopy more easily than expected using my own little tip(?)

Fortunately, there were no issues with the results, so they said it's okay to have it done once every two years.

Usually, if there are no abnormal findings, it is recommended to undergo screening every 2 to 3 years after the age of 50.

Since I had surgery related to the digestive system, it is better to have it done every two years if possible.

I scheduled and had a colonoscopy through the general outpatient clinic, so I was able to make the appointment quickly and also received some partial insurance coverage for the cost. Haha.

So, I would like to share a few of my own tips~

You all know why a colonoscopy is performed, right?

Colonoscopy is a test that can detect the presence of various colon lesions.

Colonoscopy is a procedure that involves inserting an endoscope through the anus to observe the inside of the colon, from the rectum to the end of the cecum and ileum, and it can also be performed under sedation.

Through colonoscopy, various colon conditions such as hemorrhoids, colitis, colon cancer, and colon polyps can be diagnosed, and early-stage colon cancers of small size can also be accurately detected.

Most colon cancers develop from polyps, so if detected during a colonoscopy, they can be safely removed through endoscopic surgery without open surgery.

▶When is the appropriate time for a colonoscopy?

Colon polyps or early colon cancer that can progress to colon cancer have no symptoms, so it is recommended to undergo endoscopic examinations every 3 to 5 years after the age of 50. However, if polyps are found, a follow-up examination is needed after 2 to 3 years.

Additionally, regardless of age, if there are abnormal symptoms such as family history, chronic constipation, changes in diarrhea stool habits, bloody stool, abdominal pain, anemia, or weight loss, it is advisable to undergo regular examinations.

My husband had a large polyp discovered during his second colonoscopy in his early 40s, and it was removed surgically.

Fortunately, it was not an adenoma, but I undergo examinations every two years.

It's so difficult to make a reservation for such an important colonoscopy through the company health checkup.

Usually, colonoscopies are performed as sedation endoscopies, so many people schedule them early in the year, and it's necessary to make an appointment quickly.

Since our company usually signs contracts around spring each year, by that time, the reservations for sleep endoscopy for that year are often fully booked.

Fortunately, since I was treated at a hospital where I discovered a serious illness, my medical history is on record.

They are informing me that scheduling a separate outpatient appointment for a doctor's consultation and colonoscopy, rather than a regular check-up, can help secure an appointment more quickly.

Of course, since my illness is related to the digestive system, I was able to schedule an outpatient appointment.

First tip!

If your colonoscopy appointment has been postponed too far and you are feeling anxious, or

If most of the reservations for that year are already full,

I recommend visiting the outpatient clinic due to issues with the large intestine digestive system.

For example, when having a bowel movement, discomfort or stomach pain has become particularly severe, you know, for those reasons?

Of course, employees may need to take leave from outpatient visits or allocate more time...

In my case, since I had symptoms of a lesion and underwent endoscopy through outpatient care, I was also able to receive insurance benefits.

Second tip!!

Next... Tips for the medication used to cleanse the bowel for a colonoscopy.

Usually, if you are having a colonoscopy in the morning, you will start taking the medication from 8 PM the night before.

They said they usually drink a total of 8 times: 4 times the day before the test and 4 times early in the morning on the day of the test...

The taste of Pocari Sweat... It was a bit nauseating... I didn't have the confidence to drink that medicine...

I heard I also need to drink more than 2 liters of water... Wow... I was avoiding and procrastinating because I didn't like that.

However, while talking with people, I heard that a medication much easier to take than that one has been developed.

So, I inquired at the hospital where I will get the check-up, and they said it would cost about 58,000 won.

That medication is Onprep!

OnePrep is as follows... It has a lemon flavor...

It's like a lemonade without carbonation? You can think of it that way~

I, who have a really weak stomach, was able to drink it easily! It's really worth eating!

Two packs make one set, and there are two sets included, with the last set releasing the gas before consumption.

There is one gas call packet inside...

This is the original prep just before I eat.

This should be taken 4-5 hours before the test begins.

The test was scheduled for 9 a.m. this morning, so I was told to start fasting from 4 a.m.

I accidentally didn't set my alarm and woke up at 4:20 AM, so I started eating from 4:30 AM.

Since it was my first colonoscopy, I was really worried about being 30 minutes late, but it turned out to be unnecessary.

The method of consumption is as follows.

The dispensing method is to put one packet each into the included dispensing cup.

Pour water up to the 230 ml mark, mix, and then drink.

And if you drink 230 ml twice, you can simply pour it into this cup up to the marked line.

This is a more detailed medication instruction provided by the hospital.

After taking the first prescribed medication like this, I go to the bathroom right before taking the second medication.

Take the second medication and go back twice more.

I drank all the water and went to the bathroom twice, and I was able to complete the final preparations for the colonoscopy.

It was a sufficient amount to drink, and the lemon flavor made it refreshing to drink.

It was really easy to drink a set of water, 460 ml, in 40 minutes~~

Of course, after drinking the last water, I was told it would be good to take more, so I drank about 600 milliliters of water.

Third tip!!!

Empty your bowels a bit before the check-up!!! Even if you're very hungry, try to hold it for about two days~

Since the evening two days ago, I have been eating pudding, tofu, and bread.

Of course, I did not eat anything that I should not have eaten 2-3 days before the test.

Even if I'm a bit hungry, I think reducing the amount would be better for emptying my bowels...

Eat a little less, and if you're still hungry, just have some bread like castella to satisfy your appetite...

And the day before was also the same, with breakfast/lunch consisting of pudding, bread, castella, etc.

Since coffee can stain the intestines and make it hard to see, I avoided even my favorite coffee...
I start every morning with coffee, but it was so hard not to drink coffee for three days ㅠㅠ

For dinner, of course, I will eat porridge and start fasting from 9 o'clock~

Since I ate less, it was definitely easier to empty my bowels.

Below is the dietary control guide provided by the hospital; please refer to it.

I'll remind you once again of the precautions for colonoscopy.

Sleep colonoscopy

● In case of morning examination
The day before the test, you should eat plain rice porridge for breakfast and lunch, and fast after lunch.
※To prevent dehydration, you should drink enough water.
However, you must stop drinking water from 8 a.m. on the day of the procedure.

If you are taking diabetes medication, do not take it on the day of the test and bring it to the hospital.
If you are currently taking anticoagulant or antiplatelet medications, you must consult your doctor first and discontinue the medication for a week before the endoscopy.

If you are taking blood pressure medication or heart disease medication (excluding anticoagulants), please take it with a small amount of water around 5 a.m. on the day of the test.

It is recommended to rest for about an hour after the test, and driving should be avoided.

Since driving can cause drowsiness and pose a risk of accidents, I have a guardian accompany me to the hospital where I get tested.

They strongly advised me to come using public transportation...

Since we are a dual-income couple, it's difficult to have a guardian accompany us.

The groom is given a day off for the check-up, so he will travel by public transportation.

We return to work after the check-up...

Going from home to the hospital and the company involves traveling between cities, and the company is located in an area where using public transportation is difficult...

They took the car... and then I stayed at a nearby cafe to relax until I woke up.

I checked my condition and returned well after lunch time had long passed.

I have shared some tips about colonoscopy examinations~

For those of you who, like me, are afraid of colonoscopy and are avoiding it~~

I hope you read my message at least once and definitely get a colonoscopy~

Health check-ups are essential for staying healthy! Don't forget about the importance of screenings ^^
